Collecting Mexican gold coins is not a new hobby, by any means, and has become quite popular amongst many Americans and Canadians as the collection and investment in gold coins has also grown in popularity. Cheaply imported, the various denominations of peso in Mexican mint gold are easy to acquire in current mints. We here at Gold Prices Today wanted to show you how interesting these coins can be.

Obviously, the gold coins from Mexico have the same intrinsic value as any other gold round from anywhere else in the world. While not as famous as the Gold Eagle or the Canadian Maple Leaf or the South American Kugerand, the Mexican peso comes in many sizes and grades.

The most popular types of Mexican mint gold for investment are the .999 fine quarter ounce and full ounce coins. Known as the 500 peso, the 1,000 peso, and the 1 Onza (the last two being full ounce coins). These Mexican gold coins are the most commonly traded and popular in North America.

For collectors, however, other popular coins include the .900 fine alloy coins ranging from 2 pesos (0.0482 oz) to 50 pesos (1.2057 ounce). The latter can be quite large, usually minted at 36 milimeters in diameter. As with coins from the other mints of the world, Mexican mint gold denominations have little to do with their real value.

Current mints in gold coins from Mexico will vary in availability, as their mint is on a rotation basis, but are usually on par with other common mints worldwide (value + strike). Collectibles vary widely, with old Spanish mint Mexican gold coins from the 1800s being highly sought after. 1968 Mexico City Olympics gold medallions are also extremely collectible.

For straight investors, however, regular gold rounds in Mexican mint gold can be a nice change from the standard rounds usually purchased. They can also ad diversity to a collection and can sometimes be had at slightly lower costs to their more common cousins from other nations.
